Why People Are Leaving Vimeo in 2026, and Where They're Moving

Leaving Vimeo in 2026
TL;DR Since Bending Spoons bought Vimeo, four changes are pushing customers out. Accounts Vimeo identifies as business use are being moved to a $400/mo Studio plan. Vimeo On Demand closes on November 20, 2026. Embeddable and private videos have monthly bandwidth caps with a risk of suspension. And downgrading can lock videos. Most teams are moving public videos to YouTube and private or paid videos to a dedicated host. Whatever you choose, move while your current plan is still paid for.

The 4 changes pushing people out

1. Business accounts are moved to a $400/mo plan

Under the 2026 plans, Vimeo says companies can't use its individual plans. Accounts it identifies for business use move to Studio at $400/mo, billed yearly, with 10 TB of storage, 36 TB of bandwidth a year and 10 seats. You get one email a month before your renewal. PetaPixel reported users being moved from at most $75/mo to $400/mo. If you use Vimeo personally and think you were flagged by mistake, Vimeo says you can ask Support for a review.

New Vimeo planBilled yearlyBilled monthly
Creator$9/mo$16/mo
Core$24.50/mo$40/mo
Professional$71/mo$120/mo
Studio (business use)$400/moNot offered

Prices are from Vimeo's help center as of November 2026.

2. Vimeo On Demand is closing

If you sell films, classes or courses through Vimeo On Demand, your storefront goes offline on November 20, 2026, and buyers can no longer watch what they paid for. Your videos stay in your Vimeo account, but the store and your buyers' access don't. We wrote a separate guide: Vimeo On Demand is shutting down: what to do now.

3. Bandwidth caps on embedded and private videos

Public videos that can't be embedded have no bandwidth cap. But embeddable and private videos, which is how most businesses use Vimeo, are capped at 1 TB a month on Free and Creator and 2 TB a month on Core and Professional. Vimeo doesn't cut off streaming the moment you go over. If you exceed the cap twice in 12 months, or pass 10 TB once, Vimeo may contact you. If it isn't resolved, the account can be temporarily suspended, and then your videos stop playing wherever they're embedded.

4. Downgrading can lock your videos

The obvious way to dodge a price rise is a smaller plan. But if you switch to a plan with less storage, Vimeo may lock some embeddable or private videos until you free up space or upgrade. They aren't deleted, but they stop being usable. Separately, Vimeo only keeps your original upload files while "Keep source video files" is on and your subscription is active. If the subscription ends, the originals can be deleted.

Many teams split it: public videos on YouTube for reach, private or paid videos on a dedicated host. See Vimeo vs YouTube for the trade-offs.

Before you cancel: save these 5 things

  1. Your original video files, while your plan is still active. See how to download all your Vimeo videos.
  2. Titles, descriptions, tags and thumbnails for every video.
  3. Caption files for every language you have.
  4. A list of every page that embeds a Vimeo video, so you can swap the links after the move.
  5. On Demand sellers: your sales data and opted-in fan emails.

Use the time you've already paid for

You can cancel from Vimeo's Billing page at any time, and your plan stays active until the renewal date without charging you again. That remaining time is when to move: your videos are still live and still downloadable while the new home gets built.

Every library is different. A 30-video marketing channel and a 2,000-lesson course need different plans. Tell us where you're moving, roughly how many videos you have, and your renewal date, and we'll plan the move around it and send a free sample migration first. FAQ

Why are people leaving Vimeo in 2026?
Mainly cost and uncertainty. Business accounts are being moved to a $400/mo Studio plan, Vimeo On Demand closes on November 20, 2026, embedded videos have monthly bandwidth caps, and Vimeo announced large layoffs in January 2026.

What is the Vimeo Studio plan?
Studio is Vimeo's 2026 plan for accounts it identifies as business use. It costs $400 a month billed yearly and includes 10 TB of storage, 36 TB of bandwidth a year and 10 seats.

Can I stay on a cheaper Vimeo plan as a business?
Vimeo says companies can't use its new individual plans, so business-use accounts move to Studio at renewal. If you use Vimeo personally and were flagged by mistake, you can ask Vimeo Support for a review.

What happens to my videos if I cancel Vimeo?
Your plan stays active until the renewal date. After that, original source files can be deleted, so download your originals and their details before the plan ends.

Where should I move my Vimeo videos?
YouTube for free hosting and reach, Bunny Stream for heavy private embedding, Wistia for marketing video, or a course platform for paid courses. Many teams use YouTube for public videos and a private host for the rest.
